Halogen lights produce a large amount of heat. I replaced two halogen down lighters in a house this week. The damage caused to the joint boxes is obvious. I used two LED bulbs which produce a lot less heat.

Got an emergency call out to Dun Laoghaire this morning. Customer smelled burning. I Called down and quickly located a faulty MCB in the fuse board. Had everything sorted in a few minutes.

Recessed Halogen lamps can be very dangerous due to the amount of heat generated. LED lamps are a much safer option as they generate a lot less heat.
