Came across this on Monday evening. Luckily the MCB tripped and prevented a fire. lighting cable was used to supply the hob in this instance. The connections were extremely badly terminated and the phase (live) conductor fell away as soon as I touched it.

Halogen lights produce a large amount of heat. I replaced two halogen down lighters in a house this week. The damage caused to the joint boxes is obvious. I used two LED bulbs which produce a lot less heat.

Got an emergency call out to Dun Laoghaire this morning. Customer smelled burning. I Called down and quickly located a faulty MCB in the fuse board. Had everything sorted in a few minutes.

Got two emergency call outs this morning before 8.30. One was to Monkstown where an extension lead was going on fire and the other was to Shankill where a MCB on the fuse board was burning. Both problems sorted before 10am.
